PSG v Liverpool

Atletico Madrid v Monaco

  • Monaco got their first win under Henry at the weekend so spirits will be lifted.
  • This match is going to be a damage limitation job for Monaco who have no ambitions in Europe at this stage.
  • The French side will likely set up with 5 at the back with Raggi, Jemerson and Badliashile playing in the centre with Henrichs and Silva at fullback.
  • Monaco are winless in 9 of their last ten away games in the Champions League and have conceded at least one in all of their previous 17 on the road.
  • Monaco’s injury crisis is a little bit better, but they’ll still be weakened without Glik, Subasic, Jovetic, Lopes, Pellegri, Aholou, Barreca, N’Doram and a few others
  • Atletico have concerns at the back with Godin, Gimenez, and Juanfran all set to miss out.
  • The Spanish sideare coming into this game on the back of a 1-1 at home against Barca and are unbeaten at the Wanda in their last ten home games.
  • Atletico boasts the 2nd best xGA numbers in the competition with only 3.04 xGA. We should expect chances to be few and far between for their opponents.
  • In their previous meeting last Month these teams played our a relatively close game with Atletico only narrowly doing enough edge past the French side (2-1 xG 0.67-0.54).
  • Atletico have lost just one European match against a French club (W8, D5, L1) in sixty years of football

Lokomotiv Moscow v Galatasaray

Dortmund v Clubb Brugge

  • These two played out a close contest in Belgium when BVB ran out narrow 1-0 winners on the night.
  • Dortmund will qualify with a draw and take 1st place if they manage to win.
  • Under new coach Lucien Favre, Dortmund are W12 D5 L1 – 46 scored and 18 conceded
  • Brugge still have a tiny glimmer of hope, but they’ll need to win here and hope results elsewhere go their way.
  • Brugge broke their dismal away run in Europe last time out hammering Monaco 0-4.
  • Domestically Brugge have been on a poor run and have justed tasted back to back defeats in the league for the first time this season.
  • BVB have been outperforming their xG both in Europe and in the League by quite an amount. One would have to expect a regression sometime soon.
  • Defensively Brugge haven’t been woeful, so far they rank 10th in the competition for xGA which is higher than the likes of Roma, Man Utd, PSG, Spurs, Ajax and Inter
  • The odds suggest a routine win for Dortmund but we think the Belgians are good enough to cause them some problems. Expect it to be a close game once again.

Porto v Schalke

  • Both these teams are practically guaranteed passage into the next round so we shouldn’t expect a highly competitive encounter.
  • In our rankings, these teams are almost neck and neck, not much to separate the two who have both looked reasonably good at the back
  • Porto did put up resounding victories over Lokomotiv, but both of these games were closer than the scoreline suggests.
  • Porto managed 7 goals in those two games off just 3.45 xG
  • When these two met earlier in the competition it finished 1-1. However, Porto did outplay the Germans outscoring their opponents in xG 0.62-2.24
  • Schalke are worse off in terms of team news with McKennie (CM), Uth (CF) and Embolo (CF) and Teuchert (CF) all set to miss out
  • The Germans have only lost 2 of their last 14 away games in European competition (W8 D4 L2)

Napoli v Red Star

  • Napoli are huge favourites for this game at 1.15 despite the Serbians holding the Italians to a 0-0 earlier in the competition.
  • With a surprise victory over Liverpool on the last Matchday, Red Star have a glimmer of hope of making both the last 16 or Europa League.
  • Expect them to line-up just as they did in the home game as they hope to grind out another 0-0
  • Napoli who struggled in Serbia also had a similar game at the weekend against a well organised Chievo defence.
  • Creating good goalscoring chances hasn’t been a problem for Ancelotti’s side this season.
  • With that being said they’ll need to sharpen up here if they to avoid a repeat of what happened in Belgrade.
  • Red Star despite their win against Liverpool rank as the worst in the competition according to our rankings
  • No team in the tournament is shooting less or creating less goalscoring chances than Red Star.
  • With Napoli possessing one of the elite defences in the competition this season, it will be a bit of a miracle if Red Star manages to find the net here.
  • Red Star are worse off in terms of team news with Boakye (CF) Causic (CM) Stojkovic (RB) and Savic (CB) all injured

PSV v Barca

Tottenham v Inter

  • This is another must win game for Spurs as 2nd placed Inter are currently 3 points ahead of them.
  • A draw will be enough to see Inter qualify for the last 16 so we can expect a careful approach from Spalletti
  • Spurs are however in a rich vein of form with 5 wins from their last 5 including a confidence-building 3-1 win over local rivals Chelsea.
  • Spurs have an excellent home record in the Champions League with 5 wins from their last 7 (Only losses to Barca & Juve)
  • Spurs have also found the net at least once in all of their last 7 home games in the Champions League
  • In the last meeting between the two at the San Siro we seen a very even contest that probably should have ended in a draw (xG 0.91-1.12)
