Football League Betting Tips – 28th October
There are plenty of crunch EFL matches taking place across the divisions and we’ve picked out some of the best bets from the three leagues.
Preston vs Brentford
This should be a terrific Championship encounter between two teams who have been playing some decent football of late. Preston came from 3-0 down to almost nick something against Wolves at the weekend and the Lilywhites have netted exactly two goals in each of their last four Championship matches. Dean Smith’s side has suffered from defensive shortcomings this campaign since they lost Harlee Dean to Birmingham although they do have firepower at the other end and the return of Lasse Vibe will certainly help matters. Neal Maupay ended his goal drought last weekend and should be able to add to his tally.
Back Over 2.5 Goals at 1.71 with Marathon Bet. This would have landed in each of Brentford’s last three away games in the second tier whilst it’s landed in each of Preston’s last four matches. Alex Neil’s side’s defensive steel appears to have been left behind in August and September and has been a lot more open during recent performances.
Fleetwood vs Oxford
Oxford have been excellent in recent weeks and Pep Clotet’s side are unbeaten in their last five matches. They have been successful in back-to-back away matches including an eye-catching victory at the Memorial Ground against Bristol Rover and they also stuck four past Peterborough. Fleetwood have been making many individual mistakes recently which has cost them plenty of points and their only victory in the last five came against lowly Plymouth. They rarely fail to score though which is why their blank against Shrewsbury came as a huge surprise last weekend.
Back Oxford 0.0 on the Handicap at 2.00 with Marathon Bet. Oxford have been tough to beat in recent weeks and those underwhelming performances are well and truly behind them. They have looked better on their travels recently and could punish Uwe Rosler’s side who are currently trying to end a winless run which has seen them scrape a couple of draws.
Oldham vs Scunthorpe
Richie Wellens has been a revelation since taking to the hot seat at Boundary Park and his side was once again victorious in midweek with a late winner which saw off near-neighbours Bury. That will surely give them the confidence to grab something from this home tie with Graham Alexander’s Scunthorpe. The Iron have been decent this season but their defensive fragility is largely a thing of the past and they haven’t been able to keep a clean sheet since the 26th of September. The Latics don’t keep clean sheets either but they have the prolific Eoin Doyle who is a superb operator at this level.
Back Oldham to win at least one half at 1.95 with Marathon Bet. The feel-good factor has certainly not worn off at Boundary Park yet and Wellens will look to galvanise his side once again. With Craig Davies and the aforementioned Doyle on their books, they will always offer a threat and it is likely they will take something from this tie. They’ve already beaten Blackburn and Peterborough here and Scunny have not scored in three away matches.
Accrington vs Barnet
Accrington have let us down at home on a couple of occasions this season but John Coleman’s side have been playing really well recently and they are facing a side who haven’t won in nine. Accy lost at home to Grimsby and drew with Cheltenham but they bounced back with a superb 1-0 success here against Coventry and they were excellent in their 2-0 win at Crewe last weekend. Barnet’s Rossi Eames is going through his first rough patch as permanent manager and a 1-1 draw at home with Yeovil last week can be considered a disappointing result considering they were leading for the at least 70 minutes of that match.
Back Accrington to Win at 2.03 with Marathon Bet. Accrington always throws a nice price in League Two and they are a side who are playing with plenty of confidence at the moment. A Billy Kee double was enough to secure them all three points last weekend and they should have too much for a side who are lacking confidence in front of goal.
